• World Masters Games Auckland 2017 

    With around 25,000 participants expected from all over the world to compete in some 30 different sports, the Auckland 2017 World Masters Games is one event not to be missed. Auckland has a proud history of staging spectacular sporting events and was recently voted second in The Bid Book’s ranking of trans-Tasman sporting cities. The world came to play in Auckland for the incredibly successful Rugby World Cup 2011 and Auckland has also hosted a huge range of other sporting events and tournaments over the last few years

    The Auckland 2017 World Masters Games will be held over 10 days and will feature up to 30 sports, with multiple disciplines within each sport.

    The 16 core sports are:

    • Archery • Athletics • Badminton • Basketball• Canoeing / Kayaking • Cycling • Football • Hockey• Orienteering • Rowing • Shooting • Softball• Squash • Table tennis • Triathlon • Weightlifting

    To make up the 30 sports, Auckland will select up to 14 additional sports to complement the core programme. These will be chosen based on a range of criteria, including their presence at previous World Masters Games events, national and international interest and sports that reflect Auckland and New Zealand’s unique landscape and culture. The selected sports are expected to be confirmed by July 2014.

    The heart of the event will be the Athletes Hub, right on Auckland’s waterfront, where participants can get together and enjoy a drink, access event information and check out the expo. You’ll also have the opportunity to enjoy evening events, as well as fantastic day trips and activities to experience some of the great things Auckland has to offer.
